Chapter Five → It's not always rainbow & butterflies, it's compromise that moves us along

As the weeks dragged on, so did Kinsley's pregnancy, she was starting to feel like she spent most of her adult life pregnant. Not that it had ever stopped her from working or doing as she pleased, it was just a real pain in the butt.... and the back, and the feet and just about everywhere else.

Good thing though was as time continued to move on, so did Cherie's job and soon she was promoted to  undercover work. It brought with it a nice chunk of money as well as the joy of the wacky outfits that the blonde would wear home on a daily basis. "You look like a two dollar whore." Kinsley deadpanned.

"Only two dollars? Aww, i was going for at least a bill."

"Oh i've got bills for ya, the water bill, the electricity bill, the phone bill..."

"Yeah, yeah, i get it." Cherie said with a chuckle, smirking.

"Katharine must you play with that thing in the kitchen?"

"Bobo is not a thing mom, he's my friend."

"Either way, you're under foot, if you want me to make this food, scoot. And you get outta there, you can see i'm cooking." It was how the weekends usually went, the girls running around under foot while Kinsley puttered here and there, Cherie tending her garden or running off to the gym.

The quiet of one of those weekends was abruptly broken when Kinsley suddenly went into labor, the girls both running to find Cherie. "Mom! Mom! The baby's coming!!" They both shouted to the blonde, sounding panicked yet excited at the same time.

"Okay, calm down, your mother will be freaking out enough for all of us." Cherie said to the two girls in a soothing voice as she got up from her place in her garden and headed inside.

"Can we come!?" "Can we watch!?" The girls asked in tandem.

"No!" Kinsley said loudly, having heard them through the window.

"You heard the boss." Cherie said to their daughters, giving them each a pat on the head before going to help her lover into the car so they could head to the hospital. "Try not to burn down the house!" She called to the girls as they drove off, getting a shouted 'we won't!' in response.

By mid evening when the women returned with their new son. "Can we see the baby!?" The girls jumped, looking like they had been waiting at the door since that morning.

"When he wakes up." Kinsley assured before heading into the master bedroom to place the baby in the bassinet.

Soon enough that homey familiar calm once again fell over the little house, the family enjoying the peace.

The 5am feedings.

The afternoon play times.

The 'not quite' family dinners.

The insanity.

Although things were slowly creeping up, things such as birthdays. The girl's were about to become teens any moment and Kinsley wasn't getting any younger, in fact, she was dreading her birthday. Luckily there was always something around for her to take her anger out on, mostly the washing machine. "You are on my list buddy!" She ground out through her teeth at the blasted washer, imagining the many ways she would enjoy ripping it apart.

She was just mopping up the washer's latest tantrum when she heard the sound of car doors outside, which was odd since she was the only one that drove in the house. Oh sure, Cherie knew how to drive, she just hated doing so. "Kinsley?" The blonde's voice could be heard calling from outside.

"I'm busy swimming in our hallway again, what do you want?" The brunette called back.

"I want you to go upstairs."

"What!?"

"Just do it damn it." Cherie said, poking her head in the door to give her wife a little playful glare.

"Fine, but when i get back, this mess better not be here." Kinsley said, meaning the puddles.

"Scout's honor."

"You were never a scout." The brunette said with a little chuckling scoff as she head upstairs, waiting around (i.e: cleaning) in the girl's room until Cherie called for her to come down again.

Kinsley didn't have to wait long to ask what had gotten into Cherie's head when the brunette came back downstairs, the brand new sparkling washer was explanation enough. "Okay, i know that getting appliances as gifts is a huge faux pas, but..." Cherie couldn't get the rest of her sentence out because she quickly found herself with an armful of Kinsley. "I take it you approve?"

"I approve." Kinsley said with a grin.

And Kinsley made sure to show her appreciation.

In spades.

Luckily mama had brought home other presents as well, so they girls were able to keep busy and pretend that their parents weren't being all gross and kissy.

Zane was oblivious, typical.

Everyone was in a good mood when the big birthday morning arrived.

The girl's were excited, they couldn't wait for cake and presents, although as the day dragged on, they quickly found things to busy themselves with.

Cherie was puttering around in her garden, trying to fight back the ill feeling she'd been having all week when her phone rang. She sighed when she saw it was her boss. "Mitch, it's my day off." She said.

"I know, but i need you to come in, two hours tops."

"Why do i have a feelings you're lying to me?"

"Cause i am, see you in twenty." And with that he hung up, leaving Cherie with the job of bailing out on her kids birthdays, which only made her stomach flip flop with guilt, which did nothing for the nauseous feeling she had.

Well, Cherie or no Cherie, the party was going on. First to blow out the candles was Katharine -

Who grew into quite the lovely young lady.

Michelle was next, who was a bit more rebellious, like Cherie was as a teen, but just a lovely as her sister.

Finally it was mom's turn, she loathed the idea of growing older but knew it was the natural thing. Too soon the candles were blown out and she too had celebrated her birthday, after the cakes had been eaten and everyone was stuffed, the children were sent to bed and as the night dragged on there was still no sign of Cherie. Eventually Kinsley went to bed, alone.

It was very late when Cherie finally crawled into bed with her lover, sighing as she flopped back onto the pillow. "Sorry." She said softly into the darkness, sensing that Kinsley was in fact awake.

"You're missed everything."

"I know."

"Why were you so late?" Kinsley asked, speaking in a hushed tone thanks to the sleeping toddler not more than a foot away from their bed.

"I had an appointment."

"After work?" Cherie just hummed in response. "With who?"

"A doctor."

"What's wrong?" Kinsley asked, opening her eyes to look over at the blonde through the darkness of their room.

"I might be a little bit pregnant." Cherie admitted.

Kinsley had to admit, she wasn't expecting that. "Only a little bit?"

"Apparently it's only going to get worse." Cherie joked lightly.

"Hmm, an incurable case of the ever expanding baby." Kinsley smirked, rolling over onto her side so she could curl around Cherie and spoon as the blonde too rolled to accommodate their position.

"I hope not." Cherie chuckled as her eyes fluttered close, sleep finally taking the couple over. "Happy birthday." She sighed.

"Happiest."

Chapter Notes:

That's FOUR! Whee! Okay, so one's not born yet, at least in this chapter. Yeah, i spent more than a couple hours playing the family, so they're already pretty darn farther ahead than they are here. At least, i think so. Anyway, Zane is my heir, gotta admit, i was disappointed he was a boy. The males don't have nearly as many fun CAS items to play with lol, but i shall live. His traits are Genius and Eccentric and his favorite color is orange. Katharine's third trait is Neat and Michelle's is Rebellious, and in case you couldn't tell, Katharine's favorite color is green and Michelle's is pink. They're room will be featured in the next update so it can been seen how i made their shared room one of a kind to each of them for the 'It's so YOU' aspect of the challenge, although that part is kind of a no brainier for me because i always color coordinated and deck out each sim's room to fit their likes and personalities.

Kinsley started a mid life crisis the second she aged up, god i hate those things. So the next chapter will feature a new and improved Kinsley, trust me, i don't like it anymore than anyone else will lol. I don't like change much, but it's part of the challenge so i am going with it. Also i just recently, as in like two minutes ago, decided to put Twallan's story progression mod into my game because i wasn't happy with EA's story progression at all. This was the first time i've actually had to pay attention to the SP, and wow, EA's is staggering! Drags the game down something awful, although i've gotta admit i'm a little wary about the mod. I use a ton of his mods, but i've never used this one before so if anyone else uses it and wants to let me know some about it, please, feel free ^^

  1. Great update! The girls grew up lovely.
I ignore the midlife crisis crap myself. I tried fulfilling some of the wishes the first couple of times I got them, but while the wishes themselves got fulfilled, I got no credit for them in the midlife crisis moodlet thing, and when it was over I got told I fulfilled 0 wishes. So, if I credit for 0 wishes no matter what, I'm pretty good with fulfilling 0 wishes, lol.
I've used Twallan's SP for ages now, so if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. It really keeps the neighborhood alive.

  2. Yay, birthdays!! Your Sims are SO pretty! I love their style. Four kids on Gen 1, wow, what a handful!

I don't think I'm going to play the midlife crisis anymore, either. As with Melissa, I get no credit for the wishes I complete, so there's no point. From now on I'm going to the hospital for "therapy" to just get rid of it.

I also use Twallan's SP, and I LOVE it!
