Chapter Seven → Someone take me back to the day, before this was a job, before i got paid

Life went on pretty normally after that, or well, as normal as it could be with an International Super Spy and a dirty Private Eye as the heads of the house hold, which is to say, not all the normal.

"This is the last time i lend my car to those brats, they know when i start work!" Kinsley grumbled as she biked up hill toward's her latest destination, she wasn't that outta shape was she?

"Hmm, you know you remind me of an old tv show."

"Which one?"

Kinsley paused, thinking back to the episode of the Twilight Zone with the pig faced people. "Never mind."

Little did she know that the car she had let Michelle borrow was being used for pranks, mostly flooding the school. Unfortunately the janitor was still there and had caught the girl, the police were soon called and she found herself being taken home in a much different car than the one she had left in.

Her sudo arrest didn't go over well with her parents, nor did the information that they had to pay to get Kinsley's car released from the impound lot.

After her run in with the law, Michelle's rebellious side calmed down a bit, but only slightly, she still liked to pull pranks around the house. As the weeks and months dragged on, so did time and soon the girl's graduation were upon them.

But before they graduated they had to attend a few ceremonies at school for their extracurricular activities. They both got a bunch of awards and framed things, Michelle's favorites was a gold LP whereas Katharine's was a painting by her favorite artist.

But before anyone graduated there were birthday's to be had, Suszanna and Zane's were within days of each other and soon after his were Katharine and Michelle's, who's birthday fell on the same day. First up to blow out the candles was Suzanna though, the little girl growing up quickly.

Suzanna was an odd one, but the family was use to odd, they were odd, it was what they were good at. No sooner did she become school age that Cherie got the bright idea to send her to a boarding school.

"Really? A boarding school?" Kinsley asked from where she was standing in the kitchen by the sink, washing dishes as Cherie dried.

"Think about it, she'll have all the chances we never did."

"We were hardly lacking anything in school Cher." Kinsley said with a little roll of her eyes, true, Cherie might have lacked quite a few things at home, or well, homes considering how much time she spent hopping from one foster family to another. But their schooling was pretty standard inner city kind of schooling, it did well enough for them and for their other children why should Suzanna be any different?

"I just mean, we have the money now, why not give her the option?" Cherie said, Kinsley didn't like the idea but agreed to let the child decide if she wanted to try schooling away from home.

As it turned out, Suzanna liked the idea and before anyone could admit they were ready, the night before she had to leave was upon them. They all acted as normally as possible, even though everyone was starting to wonder about it. Zane and Suzanna kept busy by playing tag in the yard, well into the evening.

Katharine and Michelle's bout of video gaming had resulted in a pillow fight, with their mother's pillows. "I'm gonna sell you two to the lowest bidders if you don't get you're asses outta here." Cherie threatened as she attempted, and failed, to get some work done on the computer.

Kinsley, meanwhile, was still out on the case. Having run into some trouble with one of her clients, the man going so far as slapping her. 'I'm getting too old for this'. She thought to herself once he was gone, the woman holding her soar face.

The morning of Suzanna's departure came far too quickly, and after one last home made breakfast and a bunch of tearful goodbyes, the girl was sent off.

She didn't let anyone in her family see her nerves, her face falling the instant she was outside the door, the girl having to physically force herself toward the awaiting cab.

The next weekend was Zane's birthday, he was met first thing in the morning with cake. Sweets for breakfast? Yes, please!

He was less impressed when he found out he had to eat and actual breakfast first before he could have cake, the teen looking at the treating longingly.

Eventually cake was had, although Kinsley couldn't shake the feeling of the huge hole that Suzanna's missing presence had left in the house.

Of course they family did their hardest to keep her mind off things, Zane asking to learn to drive was enough of a reason to keep her occupied for a day or so, also keep her stressed. Really, she never should have agreed to teach him to drive in her new car that the city had given her for her Private Eye work.

The girl's birthday and graduation fell on the same day, they seemed unworried. "If i win you have to do my homework for a week." Katharine said as they fought to gain ground in their racing game.

"School's over, screw homework." Michelle said as she made a face, she wasn't very good at video games.

"Then i'll take your money instead."

"Like hell you will."

"Would you two cut it out and get your asses over her to blow out your candles?" Kinsley called from where she and Zane were near the table, Cherie working late, again.

Michelle was first up, she had to think deeply about her wish before blowing out the candles.

Only time would tell if her wish would come true, whatever it happened to be.

Next up was Katharine, who put less stock in wishes and was just excited for cake, yay!

Her new found adult freedom came with many interesting thoughts, obviously.

After the cakes were eaten and the gifts were open, everyone went to bed, Kinsley alone. Cherie's work hours had gotten longer and more often than not she was woken from bed in the dead of night to go in to work on something, and Kinsley didn't mind much. The money was good, finally they were living halfway decently and hell, they had even enough to pay for Suzanna's tuition. The thought of their youngest daughter woke Kinsley from a rather restless sleep.

She sat out in the dinning room, just staring for the rest of the night, lost in thought. Their children were almost grown, two were about to graduate and leave home, it felt wrong to have one so far away, making them all miss out on so much. Suzanna was the youngest, the last in the family, and even though the phone calls kept them up to date as to how she was doing, it wasn't enough.

By the time the sun was breaking the horizon, the first sounds of the older kids could be heard upstairs and Cherie could be heard outside getting the mail, but Kinsley didn't worry about any of that. She grabbed her phone and punched in a few numbers. "Time to come home kid." She said with a gentle smile to the little girl on the other end of the receiver.

Chapter Notes:

Zane's lucky he grew up cute lol, and omg i felt so bad when i sent Suzanna away! But Cherie got the wish and i was like, okay, i've never used the boarding school function why not try it out, so i sent her. Like a day later, Kinsley got the wish to bring her home lol. Too cute, this is just the first part, i have another update coming momentarily, where there will be a bit of an 'arg' rant about a game hiccup in the next chapter's notes, just a warning :)

Michelle's last trait is Artistic and she got her LTW, which is to be a Movie Composer.

Katharine's last trait is Workaholic and her LTW is to be an Illustrious Author.

Zane's newest trait is Greenthumb and he actually got his LTW soon after he aged up, Perfect Garden, since he's gonna be in the science track, i let him have it.

Suzanna's third trait is Shy, which might have explained why she looked so unhappy about leaving home, poor baby :( I literally felt bad for sending her away lol.
