Chapter Seventeen → All I know is you're so nice, you're the nicest thing I've seen

If Michael was upset about how much time Zane was spending away from the house, he barely let it show. In fact, the little boy seemed perfectly content if not slightly strange, he seemed obsessed with lama's from space. "Mother, you wouldn't happen to know what that's about would you?" Zane asked Kinsley, who just looked up at her son innocently.

"Uggy 'ama pace!!" Michael screamed.

"Not at all." The woman said, okay, so perhaps she had fed his folly slightly, but she didn't know he would take it so seriously.

"'Omes!!" The toddler shouted, batting at the air in front of him.

"That gnome graveyard out front isn't helping much either." Zane pointed out.

"Watch it, touch the gnomes and face the consequences." Kinsley warned before there was a knock on the door. "Oop, saved by the bell, go bug your girlfriend." She waved the blonde away, Zane only rolling his eyes in mock exasperation with his mother.

"You look annoyed." Cora pointed out when Zane met her on the front lawn.

"It's nothing, i just think we need to get my mother tested."

"Both are certifiable." Cora agreed playfully.

"Is that your official diagnoses?" He asked, leaning close to her in a flirty way.

"Absolutely." Cora smirked.

"I have something i need to ask you."

"Uh-oh." Cora's smirk dropped. "What?"

Turned out there was no 'uh-oh' as Zane dropped to one knee and produced a small ring box from his back pocket. "Marry me?" It was simple, to the point, without any over the top grandiose promises of forever or being the 'one'. It was completely pomp free, which was perfectly them.

Cora of course, could only think of one answer.

Zane's brother-in-law Derrick insisted that he have a bachelor party, Zane had to admit, he didn't remember much of anything of that night. All he did know was he woke up in the basement wearing a top hat with a hangover that would've kill a horse, thankfully, no one else seemed to remember much either.

After a day to sober up, the big day was upon them, it was obvious that both were nervous from the first second the first guest stepped through the door.

The couple hadn't invited many people, just close relatives and co-workers, but it was enough for them, they weren't the flashy kind.

Cora looked like she was floating on air, Zane just couldn't keep his eyes of Cora.

The wedding ran into the early nighttime hours, people not leaving until they had danced and eaten their fill.

Now if only they hadn't left such a damn mess, Cora was the first awake the day after and was left with the job of cleaning up. Admittedly not what she wanted to be doing on her honeymoon, but since both she and Zane worked such odd and demanding hours, or well, demanding in her case, a proper honeymoon just wasn't practical.

Being the first awake also meant she was left with the responsibility of caring for Michael, who she wasn't quite sure about. Sure, Cora hadn't thought the highest of his mother but the little boy didn't know that, heck the child had never even really had a mother. Joanna died long before he could walk and talk and when she was alive, she barely spent any time with him whatsoever.

Michael seemed taken with his step mother though, pretty and smelled nice. He liked the way she talked to him, never angry or rushed. He'd never had a mother before so Cora quickly became 'mama' in his eyes, and he liked it just fine.

Chapter Notes:

Short update is short, but really this was just to get from point A to point B, get them married and Cora moved in, Check! Moving on.
Also, damn bachelor party! That's the only picture i got from it at it was at the end, i was capping left and right but my computer's been acting up lately as well as the game, so none of the shots took apparently. It's to bad because it was funny, someone stripped and ran around in their undies for the whole thing thanks to the 'drunk' mod. People were puking, the dancing girls were dressed as cheerleaders, Zane's two extremely pregnant sister's crashed the party and danced like it was 1999!.... okay showing my age now lol, anyway, yes, it was epic and i'm bummed i didn't get any of the pictures :(

  1. Aww, sorry to hear about the Bachelor party photos!! Now it's really like Vegas, it stayed in Vegas.

Perhaps Cora will be able to restore a little sanity to that house, haha!
